The impact of CEH on my life

My name is Urya Nag, and I reside in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, India, with my beloved wife Neelam and our precious daughter Shiyona. Today, I stand before you with immense gratitude, eager to express the profound impact that Christian Endeavour Boys Hostel Balangir (CEH) has had on my life. It is with great pride that I claim my place within this compassionate and nurturing family. I consider myself the most fortunate individual in the world, having been raised in the loving embrace of CEH, showered with care, affection, and the blessings of Almighty God.

Every single day, I find myself overwhelmed by the grace bestowed upon me. The memory of that fateful day in July 1992, when a miracle unfolded and touched the life of a destitute child, remains etched in my heart. Today, I share my life's journey, not only to honor the glory of the Lord but also to instill courage in the hearts of the underprivileged children of this world.

I was born into a humble Christian family, residing in the underdeveloped village of Janakpur in the Balangir district of Odisha. Unfortunately, when I was just thirteen years old, tragedy struck with the loss of my father, who succumbed to paralysis. This marked the darkest period of my life, where uncertainty loomed over our next meal and we lacked even proper clothing. I still remember countless nights when my mother would offer us water with a prayer as our only sustenance. Faced with abject poverty I discontinued my education.

However, two years later, God answered my innocent prayers and blessed me with an opportunity to reside in the CEH in 1992, where I could resume my education. It was truly a place of wonder—a haven that provided nourishing food, clean and vibrant attire, a conducive environment for learning, and a multitude of friends to share joyous moments with. It felt like stepping into paradise. I approached my time there with unwavering dedication, wholeheartedly immersing myself in prayer and my studies. The hostel wardens and senior residents became guiding lights, molding both my spiritual and physical well-being.

After completing my high school education, I moved to the CE College Hostel with the support of a sponsorship. I was granted the opportunity to hone my leadership skills as part of the Christian Endeavour society. In the year 1996-97, I was elected as the Dramatic Secretary of the largest college in the district. For my exceptional leadership and debating skills, I was honored with the Governor Award from the Orissa Youth Red Cross in 1997.

I went on to complete my Post Graduation in Community Health Management from Christian Medical College Vellore, as well as a Master's in Social Work from Gurughasidas University. I have had the privilege of working with the Synodical Board of Health Services as a Regional Coordinator, The Leprosy Mission India as a Project Manager, and even as the State Program Manager for the Chhattisgarh Government. Presently, I serve as a Health Systems Officer for the World Health Organization (WHO) in India—a remarkable milestone in my career journey.

The abundant blessings and unwavering care of CEH have truly transformed my life. They have lifted me from the shackles of child labour to the esteemed position of a Health Systems Officer for the WHO. I am also a founding member of The Salvation Church in Raipur, where I serve as a Lay Leader, committed to church management and the development of our youth. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Lord for His blessings upon my life and to CEH for their unwavering support in shaping my life.

May my journey inspire and encourage those who find themselves trapped in similar circumstances, reminding them that with faith, determination, and the support of a loving community, they too can triumph over adversity and accomplish their dreams.
